Here we go

Delamere Forest

The first Out & About suggestions is Delamere Forest. We love to go for a walk in the forest! It might be as a family or to for a long dog walk or even a run. It is a 972 hectares forest, in the village of Delamere in Cheshire, England. The woodland is managed by Forestry England, and it is the largest area of woodland in the county. Therefore it is a great place to let off steam, escape the work stress, or work off a hangover. You’ll find easy-going trails for all abilities, a hike to admire the view across to Liverpool’s famous skyline, orienteering courses for all abilities, or a bit of peace to watch the wildlife by the lake. It is just a great way to lose some time and wander around.

However, if you would rather get a bird’s eye view of the forest, treat your group to an outdoor adventure at Go Ape! If heights aren’t your thing, you can hire a Segway to move around the forrest.  As you can see Delamere has something for everyone!

Arley Hall & Gardens

Only a 20-minute drive from The Hive at 52 is Arley Hall & Gardens. Arley Hall is a lovely place to wander around the garden or the house. In addition, it has an enormous character, charm, and interest. It has been the much-loved family home of Lord & Lady Ashbrook and his forebears since the fifteenth century.
Many of our guests comment on how warm and intimate the atmosphere. Arley Hall is a much-cherished family home and of course the fantastic gardens. The Gardens, which are amongst the finest in Britain. They are outstanding for their vitality, variety, and historical interest. The gardens are particularly celebrated for the magnificent double herbaceous border.

Anderton Boatlift

A short 10-minute drive from The Hive at 52 is The Anderton Boat Lift. This is certainly worth a visit. It is called the Cathedral of the Canals and for a very good reason. Not only does it still do the job it was designed to do of lifting boats and barges the 50 feet from the River Weaver Navigation to the Trent & Mersey Canal. It also does it with the most ingenious and endearing character of any structure on the canal system.
The mighty Anderton Boat Lift is one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the Waterways’! Together with its visitor centre and coffee shop, nearby Northwich Woodlands, worth a visit.

Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre

If you have not heard of Jodrell Bank you will have seen a picture of it. It is a 35-acre outdoor-only attraction and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Go and see the Grade I listed Lovell Telescope, explore the Telescope pathway or join a Telescope Talk or explore the Jodrell Bank Arboretum. Tatton Park, Hall & Gardens

For nearly 400 years the estate was the property of the Egerton family until it was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1958. It is now financed and maintained by Cheshire East Council. This is one of the most complete historic estates open to visitors. The early 19th-century Mansion sits amid a landscaped deer Park and is opulently decorated, providing a fine setting for the Egerton family’s extensive collections. The theme of Victorian grandeur extends into the garden with its glasshouses, formal gardens, Italian and Japanese gardens.
There is so much to see and do and with over 100 events each year, it makes for one of the most popular family days out in the North West. Enjoy specialty shops, the Stables restaurant, Gardener’s Cottage tea room and Tatton Dale Farm.

The circuit’s signature event is the Gold Cup meeting, which is now run as a historic event by the HSCC where some of the finest racing cars from the past 70 years roll back time and take to the track over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Trent & Mersey canal

Why put a canal on our things-to-do list? We like to give our guests a variety of ideas, and it should include a walk along this fantastic canal. The Trent and Mersey Canal is a 93 ¹⁄₂-mile canal in Derbyshire, Staffordshire, and Cheshire in north-central England. It is a “narrow canal” for the vast majority of its length, but at the extremities to the east of Burton upon Trent and north of Middlewich, it is a wide canal.
As it is only a short 2-minute drive from us.  A regularly walk or run along the canal between Acton Bridge & Northwich and we love it. It really is worth going for a little walk, even if it just to clear the cobwebs.

Blakemere Village

A family-run and home to a unique collective of independent shops and activities, including segway and award-winning Birds of Prey experiences, a craft workshop, plus food and drink outlets, all set in the heart of Cheshire. The village is free to enter and offers free parking.

We love walking around the little antiques hall and some of the items you find in The Hive at 52 have been purchased at Blakemere.

If you have done shopping and had your coffee & cake, why not go for a walk at the back of Blakemere and go further afield and find your way to Whitegate Way  You can make the walk as long as you like. Ask us if you want to find out more.
