🌞 In January, a significant transformation unfolded at The Hive at 52 with the installation of solar panels, embodying our dedication to eco-conscious practices. Witnessing the little sign on our smart meter indicating our electricity generation has been nothing short of exhilarating. The monthly reports detailing our CO2 reduction reaffirm our commitment to a more sustainable future.
While we’ve made big investments in solar and airsource heat pumps, we’re also taking numerous small steps. This year, we bid adieu to individually wrapped biscuits, shifted to recycled toilet paper, and even explored sustainability in a recent podcast! ♻️ Check out our thoughts on eco-friendly practices here! We’re frequent visitors to the Refill shop in Davenham, sourcing our cleaning products locally.
A Vibrant Summer
☀️ Summer buzzed with activity, although we noticed a slight dip in the number of wedding guests—understandable considering the changes in the wedding landscape for 2023. However, for those attending weddings in 2024 at stunning venues like Delamere Manor, Cheshire Woodland Weddings, or Abbeywood Estate, consider us for a charming accommodation option near Northwich, Cheshire. Our proximity makes us the perfect choice for a night or weekend getaway.
Many of our guests decided to stay with us, as we are so well located for some fanstastic gardens and stately homes. How about Arley Hall, Tatton Park or Dunham Massey or a little closer to home Abbeywood Estate & Gardens or the smaller but oh so pretty, Stoneyford Gardens.

Among the highlights, we’re thrilled to be finalists in two categories at the Marketing Cheshire Tourist Awards, ‘small serviced accommodation’ and ‘Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Award! Additionally, our household will cheer on our youngest daughter as she tackles her A level exams in May/June.

🚆 Our 2024 aspirations include a lifelong dream—a sustainable journey exploring and holidaying in Italy, solely by train, to minimize our carbon footprint while maximizing our experience. Additionally, as we gear up for our 10th year of trading, we’re sprucing up The Hive at 52 with a fresh coat of paint and introducing more eco-friendly towels throughout the year. 🎨
🏃♂️ On a personal note, Harro has some monumental running events lined up, starting with The Cheshire 50 Ultra in March 2024 followed by the London Marathon in April. Wish him luck and loads of encouragement to get through it!
🎓 Expectations are high as our youngest daughter ventures off to a university somewhere in England. With Daisy entering her final year studying Geography in September, the possibilities for her future are wide open.
